Completely Eliminate SMS, Keyboard, and Text Messaging Lag On HTC Touch Pro.

by Nathan on July 23, 2009

If you are anything like me, one of the major headaches you have to deal with on the Touch Pro is the keyboard input lag. When I first got the device, I was fervently trying to find a solution for months. If you are not a Touch Pro user, basically any time you would try to type a text message the device would not show characters on the screen for up to five seconds after they have been typed.

Well recently I found a few fixes that will completely eliminate text messaging lag from your device! They work while in chat view, but not when creating a text message to send. Although if you really want to eliminate the lag when creating messages, post in the comments and I’ll include a fix.

You have two options, you can either download this .cab (thanks to fr0st over at ppcgeeks) or manually by following the instructions below.

Instructions:

  1. Install and run Total Commander on your Touch Pro. (You can learn more and download it here.)
  2. Browse to /Windows/ and find “thread_sms.htm
  3. Select File > Edit. Scroll down until you find the text “count” and delete it.
    Before: “…spell focus count links…”
    After: “…spell focus links…”
  4. Save.
  5. Restart Phone – You now should have no SMS Lag.

Does not work. I’ve tried it a few times.

Did you try the .cab? What rom are you using? is it WM 6.1 or 6.5?

Also, do you see the text message counter? (i.e. 1/160)
