You will generally get this error if you are still on the Stock (Shipped) ROM for your Windows Mobile Phone.

If you’re getting this error:

Error

An unexpected error has occurred in AdvancedConfig.exe. (or another program name)
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.

This application requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.

Then there is a very good chance that your .NET Compact Framework on your Windows Mobile device is out of date. As a matter of fact, that is the problem. Lucky for you, there is a very simple solution.

The Solution:

Download the latest Microsoft .NET Framework.

Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 CAB Here

Once you have the CAB downloaded, you will need to move the CAB to your phone and install it. Once you have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed on your Windows Mobile device, try opening the program again (in this case I was trying to open AdvancedConfig.exe) and it will work now. Google’s Mobile Operating System Android has finally made its way to the Touch Pro and Diamond. The Download has been release over at Connect-UTB.com

This is great news for HTC Touch Pro and Diamond users. Many have been waiting patiently (and not-so-patiently) for an alternate to Windows Mobile on their devices. But be warned, there are still quite a few kinks needing to be worked out, but it’s sure fun to look at your device with Android! There is still no Wifi, Camera, Sounds, Accelerometer. Instructions
1 - Download the .rar file and extract the contents to your desktop. You should have a folder called tmp there now.
2 - Connect your phone to the computer with a mini-USB cable.
3 - copy the tmp folder to your memory card root (Raphael) or internal storage root (Diamond). The tmp should then be located in [memory card]/tmp Inside the tmp folder is a boot folder. You may put that anywhere or
leave it in tmp.
4 - Disconnect the usb-cable and soft-reset your Touch Pro\Diamond
5 - Open up the file explorer, find the tmp directory and launch haret.exe and click run.
6 - Wait for android to boot up, and enjoy! At the first boot it takes a while before the android boot screen comes up and then the boot screen (with the glowing android) stays up quite long before you get to the boot screen.
Subsequent boots are faster.

Q: Will this replace Windows Mobile?
A: No, for now, Android is launched through Haret which just shuts down Windows Mobile and boots into a Linux environment before booting Android. Once you restart your phone, you will be back to Windows Mobile exactly like you left it.

Q: When launching Android, it asks for my PIN-code, but it doesnt accept the one i type in!
A: You have to disable the PIN-Code authentication in Windows Mobile before booting up Android.

Microsoft ActiveSync is used to Sync files and contacts from your Pocket PC Mobile Device, and your PC. ActiveSync is for computers running Windows XP, or a previous operating system. Use WMDC if you have Vista. (Learn how to install WMDC here) To get everything working, follow the simple steps below:

1. Download ActiveSync 4.5 here from Microsoft.
2. Follow the instructions in the setup wizard.
3. Connect your device via USB to your PC.

ONLY FOR VERIZON TOUCH PRO!

1. Download and install the .NET from Microsoft for your PC.
2. Download and install Windows Mobile Device Center
3. Download Hard-SPL 0.35 to your PC. (VERIZON ONLY)
4. Sync your device with your computer.
5. While connected via Active Sync, run the HSPL_035.exe file from #3.
6. Follow Steps in the RUU.

It is my understanding this will not Hard-Reset your device, but please let us know how it goes in the comments.

This is one of the most elementary steps of customizing your device. You must know how to unzip folders.

Folders are “zipped” to decrease the download time. Therefore, you must “unzip” the folder once it is on your local machine. To do this, I am going to introduce the best, most simple, free application for unzipping files. Enter: 7-zip.

How To Unzip A Folder:

1. Download and install 7-Zip.

To do this, you must go to the 7-zip website and “download” the program. You will most likely need the 32-bit download. Once the program has been downloaded, double click on it and follow the setup wizard. After 7-Zip has been successfully installed on your computer, proceed to step 2.

2.  Locate the folder that you would like to unzip, move it to your desktop, and right-click it. 

3. If you have installed 7-Zip correctly, you will now see an option that says “7-Zip”

4. Hover over the “7-Zip” and click “Extract to “foldername”.

This will create a new folder, an unzipped folder, in the same directory that you are currently in. If the zipped folder was on your desktop, look for a new folder with the same name, but it won’t have the zipper icon.

5. Double-click the new folder and enjoy the contents.

Most of the time, if you’re flashing to a new ROM, there will be an “RUU” folder inside of the base folder, and then a “Custom_RUU” inside of that. You will most always double-click the “Custom_RUU” and that will begin the ROM flashing process.
