SPRINT! YOU BROKE ME, YOU BASTARDS! I FINALLY UPGRADED FROM SERO TO YOUR EVERYTHING DATA PLAN! BASTARDS! DID I MENTION THAT YOU’RE BASTARDS?

Okay, I didn’t upgrade my SERO plan, I simply added the Everything Data plan to my account. Screw that, I’m not giving up a $30 a month unlimited everything (sero) plan just because I want a new phone. I’m sure I can find some use for it…like for a business phone or something. I’ll PAY FOR BOTH PLANS! What now, Sprint!? What now!? haha.

Just so you know, we were really hoping that Sprint would feel it in their hearts to give us SERO users a break, and let us add the Pre to our SERO accounts, but those heartless bastards are sticking to their guns.

Notes About My Pre

I type to you from my bedroom office, my Palm Pre about a foot away from the home-row keys, sitting on it’s Touch Stone and the tunes of Jack Johnson pumping out of the speaker. No worries if I get a call while I’m listening to Pandora, the Pre simply fades my music out, and the ringtone in. I then have the option to answer the call with one touch, or ignore it. If I do answer the call, the phone automatically goes to speaker, and I start talking. Once I hang up, Pandora begins playing again right where I left off. The phone doesn’t crash. I don’t have to take my battery out and restart the thing just because I have two processes running at once. *cough* windows mobile *cough*

Say by chance the person is calling me to get the phone number of a mutual friend. I simply swipe the “live call” card away and sort through my contacts, find the number, and tell them the information they’re looking for through the speaker phone. Maybe this scenario doesn’t impress you very much, but it does me. The Palm Pre is a multi-tasking dream. The card system is amazing, and the built-in customization is awesome.

Another thing I love about the phone is that if I’m getting a call, I simply put it to my ear and talk. The sensors in the phone automatically detect that I’m in the “talking” position and the phone answers, and the screen turns off so that I don’t accidentally turn the call off, or push random buttons on the screen. What if I pull the phone away from my ear? The screen lights back up! Just like that! There is no need to push the power button every time you want to turn the screen on or off. It’s just built in!

To be honest, I had a lot of fun flashing new ROMS to my old Touch Diamond, but there comes a time in a Fluffy Phone Man’s life that he just wants to use a phone as a phone, and he wants that phone to perform without having to tweak every single setting, or flash to someone else’s customized ROM. The Pre just works and I love it just how it is. There is little that I would change with the device if anything at all. I’m really satisfied with my purchase.

The phone’s keyboard is a little small, but I’ve got pretty big hands, and I’m used to it now. The first day or two I had sore thumbs (literally), but now I can type on the Pre just as fast as I ever could, if not faster than on my late Mogul (the phone I had before the dreaded on-screen keyboard-toting Diamond).

Maybe I’ll do a more in depth review later, but these quick notes will have to suffice for now.

I guess you could call me a Palm Pre fan boy now. Heh, I’d take that title any day over being called an Apple fan boy. I honestly can’t see what’s so cool about the iPhone after using my Pre for the last few weeks. Yeah, Apple has more apps, but the Pre has apps too, and more are being added every day. Besides, screw apps. The phone works for what I need it to do. I made a whole shopping list on my Pre, compared prices for the stuff online, and chatted with friends all at the same time, all while my computer was no more than a couple feet away from where I was laying on my bed.

I got my greedy little hands on a Palm Pre today at church. A colleague of mine has the Pre and he let me fool around with it for a while during Sunday School. My first thoughts were quite similar to Nathan’s first impressions when he posted about it a few days ago.

The Pre is small! I swear all of the promo pictures make the thing look pretty big and, well, ugly. Like at least as big as the Touch Pro, but this thing doesn’t even come close! My esteemed colleague, Nathan said it reminded him of a little Pebble – my thoughts exactly. Either a little pebble, or a rain drop. Whatever it looks like, it’s definitely a chunk of burning love.

After I got over the excitement of seeing this thing in real life, I figured I’d get down to business before the teacher began the lesson on compassion and other less important matters. I navigated to the contacts, popped out the keyboard and naturally began typing in my contact information. After all, I should be the most important person in his contact book! Right off the bat I noticed that the keyboard was teeny tiny! I’d say that I have average size hands and fingers, and I must admit that it wasn’t super comfortable to type on. However, I couldn’t complain because moments before holding this rain drop in my hand, I was fumbling around the not-so-friendly onscreen keyboard on my device (the Diamond). So the small keyboard took some getting used to. But I would easily take the smaller physical keyboard on the Pre over the Diamond’s onscreen keyboard.

In the few minutes that I had the Pre, I noticed that it was really comfortable in the hand, and it had a rather intuitive, user-friendly interface. I only had the phone for a few minutes, but in the time I had it I managed to type my contact information into the phone, and I texted myself a message. Something I noticed immediately after I sent the message was that the messages were displayed in a really eye-friendly format. It kind of reminded me of iChat on a Mac. Just really smooth and nice to look at.

Take this for what it’s worth. I only had a few minutes with it, but those few minutes were enough to sell me on wanting one. Funny, because the night before, I had myself nearly talked out of lusting after the Pre after reading Shoemoney’s rant on how much he hates Sprint and the Pre. Unfortunately, Sprint isn’t allowing customers with SERO to activate the Pre. Shame, shame. But unless they end up allowing SERO customers jump on board, I’m going to have to pass the Pre by and wait patiently for the next SERO-friendly device – if they make one, that is.

Cheers, Fluffy Readers!

Hopefully that will be soon But I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to afford one on June 6th. Maybe I’ll just have to be a fanboy with Jeremy for a few months until we can afford one. But to be completely honest, there’s still a chance I could get an iPhone. We’ll just have to wait and see what Apple has to say at WWDC a few days after the Pre’s launch. If you are too eager to wait for the Pre, you could always buy a Palm Treo. Amazon has one for $385 without having to sign your life away.

Don’t give up, fellow SERO’ers!

Today has been a rather rough day for us Sprint customers who are fortunate (and cursed) enough to be on the Sprint SERO plan. Unfortunately, we’re not fortunate enough to get much love from Sprint as far as new, shiny phones go. First they didn’t let us get the instinct (we really didn’t care about that), but now the Pre! What has this world come to? Things aren’t looking good for SERO and the Pre, but don’t give up just yet!

This morning, when Engadget officially announced the Palm Pre’s coming out of the closet date, I called Sprint to see if there was any hope for me and my SERO plan. The lady seemed rather clueless when I asked her if the Pre would work on my SERO plan – not surprisingly – but then she said something that gave me a glimmer of hope. She said that she ‘thought’ that it might work! How about that? It made me happy to hear a Sprint rep say that, even though I’m sure she’s just as clueless about it as I am. It felt better to hear that it ‘might work’ as opposed to hearing the depressing drone of tweets coming from twitter all the time. Not to mention, the official Sprint team’s tweet of shame regarding the Pre and SERO.

Nevertheless, I never underestimate the power of the voice of the people and the smart people over at ppcgeeks and xda-developers, to name a few (and slickdeals.net). I bet between us and them we can figure out how to get our SERO accounts activated on the Pre. We’ll definitely let you know what we find out!

Here’s to hope!

UPDATE 6/16/2009 – It still appears that nobody has successfully activated a Palm Pre on a SERO account. Let us know in the comments if you know of anyone close, or have any ideas.
