You will generally get this error if you are still on the Stock (Shipped) ROM for your Windows Mobile Phone.
If you’re getting this error:
Error
An unexpected error has occurred in AdvancedConfig.exe. (or another program name)
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.This application requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.
Then there is a very good chance that your .NET Compact Framework on your Windows Mobile device is out of date. As a matter of fact, that is the problem. Lucky for you, there is a very simple solution.
The Solution:
Download the latest Microsoft .NET Framework.
Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 CAB Here
Once you have the CAB downloaded, you will need to move the CAB to your phone and install it. Once you have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed on your Windows Mobile device, try opening the program again (in this case I was trying to open AdvancedConfig.exe) and it will work now. Best luck!

Any idea as to why the installation for this CAB file would be unsuccessful? I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 with stock ROM running winmo 6.1
